Tanzania is the youngest child and only daughter of Sherman and Shirley Jackson. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson, high school sweethearts, grew up in the bay area where they married and have three children, Sherman Leon Muhammad, Leonard Muhammad, and Tanzania X.

Kimani Muhammad is the son and only child of Frank Muhammad (deceased) a Minister in the Nation Of Islam and Jerlean Muhammad an elementary school teacher. Both Frank and Jerlean grew up in Greenwood, MS, married then moved to Jackson, MS.
